If your website isn’t getting the visibility you want, start here.
SEO can feel like one of those things that lives in the “I’ll get to it later” category. It sounds technical. Time-consuming. Slightly overwhelming. But there are a handful of small things you can do that make a real difference, and they don’t require a full website overhaul or a 3-hour deep dive.

1. Make sure your website is mobile friendly
Over 60% of website traffic now comes from mobile. And yet, this is still one of the most common gaps I see. A site might look great on desktop, but on mobile the text is too small, buttons are hard to tap, and it’s not immediately clear what the page is about. If someone has to work to use your site, they won’t stick around, and Google takes that into account. Mobile usability is a ranking factor, so if your site isn’t optimized, it can impact your visibility. The easiest way to check is to open your site on your phone and scroll like a new visitor. Is it easy to read? Are buttons easy to click? Is the content organized? If not, this is one of the fastest ways to improve both your SEO and your conversions.
2. Update your page titles
This is the text that shows up in search results and at the top of your browser tab, and it should clearly communicate what you do and who you help. Instead of leaving it as something generic like “Home” or your business name alone, your title should include relevant keywords that someone would actually search. For example, “Brand and website design for female founders | Nordstrom Creative House” is much more effective than just “Home.” It helps Google understand your site and makes it easier for the right people to find you.
4. Rename your images
Before uploading images to your website, rename the file to clearly describe what it is instead of leaving it as something like “IMG_4829.jpg.” Use simple, keyword-based names like “Nicole-nordstrom-brand-website-designer-headshot.” Then add alt text to each image that briefly describes what’s shown. This helps Google understand your content and improves accessibility, both things that help your searchability
5. Create blog content that answers real questions
Create blog posts that answer the questions your audience is already searching for. Think about what your clients ask you on calls, in DMs, or before they hire you, and turn those into simple, helpful posts. Use clear, searchable titles and focus each post on one specific question. This helps your website show up in search results and positions you as the expert before someone even reaches out.
